Our Residential Drug and Alcohol Rehab

Meeting Of Support Group

As a disease, addiction is unique in that its development depends on a complicated confluences of factors that can be biological, environmental, and developmental. This means that addiction can occur as a result of a genetic susceptibility, due to exposure to substance abuse, as a result of personal choice, or some combination thereof.

Moreover, the effects of addiction are profound and varied, resulting in the deterioration of health and behavior. Not only does the body deteriorate in a number of ways due to habitual substance abuse, but individuals who suffer from addiction often damage or destroy important relationships, lose jobs and homes, and experience many other resultant hardships.

Although it’s a progressive and chronic disease, alcohol and drug addiction can be overcome. At South Shores Recovery, we offer extended inpatient services and rehab programs that last up to three months, affording residents a drug-free, serene environment in which to focus on recovery and receive quality, effective treatments. Our goal is to help every resident achieve lasting, long-term sobriety through our residential drug rehab.

High-Quality Treatment & Continuous Care During an Extended Stay

Our residential alcohol and drug addiction rehab offers individuals a period of treatment in which they reside on-site for the duration of the program. This allows residents to benefit from a highly individualized treatment experience with continuous monitoring and quality care by our team of detox and treatment experts, experienced clinicians, and physicians.

Moreover, upon admission one of our counselors will help each individual create a personalized treatment curriculum that consists of a combination of evidence-based counseling and psychotherapy as well as a variety of holistic and supplemental treatments, allowing us to address each of a resident’s individual recovery needs and preferences.

As part of the intake process, we consider residents’ needs at all stages of recovery—from detox to aftercare planning—which can involve coordinating with local programs, healthcare, and medical professionals, and nearby outpatient services to ensure that each of our residents’ needs are met to promote lasting sobriety.

In addition to offering residential addiction treatment, South Shores Recovery also offers detox services, allowing individuals to overcome physical dependency and begin treatment for addiction in one place, treated by some of the same physicians, specialists, and clinicians.

Additionally, South Shores Recovery makes use of a variety of “comfort medications,” which are intended to alleviate any discomfort that occurs as part of rehabilitation; this includes the use of medication to help individuals relax, sleep, or to alleviate anxiety. Inpatient Rehab in Orange County: Our Proven Programs

If you’ve fallen victim to a substance abuse issue, help can seem like it’s a million miles away. This is especially true if you live in a more upscale area like many parts of Orange County.

Because of the attempt to uphold the image of living to a certain standard, many high-end locations are quicker to isolate those who struggle with drug addiction. Despite the rising numbers, attending addiction treatment isn’t the “status quo.”

Unfortunately, this can leave those who live in areas like Orange County, San Juan Capistrano, and Dana Point feeling isolated, with little help from their communities – and sometimes, even family members. Another challenge in the Orange County area is the concentration of addiction treatment centers with a high price tag.

Admitting yourself to a residential treatment center can cost tens or even hundreds of thousands of dollars, and without top-notch insurance, many of those seeking addiction treatment feel left behind on the road to recovery. The good news is – there are alternatives to the standard “luxury” or “celebrity” rehabs you see so often in the area. Overcoming drug and alcohol addiction doesn’t have to break you financially.

At South Shores Recovery, we provide solutions to substance abuse challenges with a comprehensive approach to addiction treatment. We offer options like couples rehab programs and dual diagnosis treatment as part of our residential rehab program, along with a plethora of other substance abuse treatment options.

If you’re looking for an Orange County residential treatment center, the following article highlights what to expect from South Shores, as among the highest-quality facilities in the area.

Quality Standards and Levels of Care for Substance Abuse Treatment Centers In Orange County

Substance Abuse Treatment

It’s one thing to attend substance abuse treatment. It’s another to attend the most appropriate facility with a proven record of molding successful recovery stories. So what should you look for in an addiction treatment center in Orange County?

The first thing you need to keep in mind is that addiction treatment is more than just “rehab.” Many people have a preconceived notion about what they think rehab in Orange County, or anywhere, looks like.

For a good majority of those unfamiliar with what our Orange County mental health treatment services look like, many people assume it consists of long days, mostly spent inside in front of a counselor, or in a drab, concrete facility with bright white lights and a mediocre diet at best.

Addiction Treatment: Done Differently

The truth is, at South Shores Recovery, we have a state-of-the-art facility designed to cater to your creative side and help you obtain maximum relaxation and comfort.

Our facility is more like a villa instead of a medical center, allowing each client to gain peace of mind in an environment that’s conducive to education and understanding.

So, what components come together to form this atmosphere? We break down the specifics of everything from our detox to inpatient services and outpatient treatment programs – we want you to have a clear understanding of Orange County drug addiction treatment centers.

Rehab In Orange County: From Detox to Dual Diagnosis Treatment

When beginning with our treatment program, the initial step generally entails the detox process. This is vital, as it’s mandatory to get the body strong before preparing to heal the mind.

Medically-assisted detox may be warranted if the specific drug addiction includes:

These are typically the big four that require detox to quell withdrawal symptoms before entering the actual “treatment programs.” It’s easy to confuse the detox process with drug rehab when, in fact, the two are quite different.

During the medical detox period, your primary goal is to navigate the discomfort of physical withdrawal symptoms. It’s these painful side effects of detoxification that stand in the way between most clients and recovery – at least initially.

What to Expect During Medical Detox

Most alcohol addiction or opioid abuse disorders will require medical detox. In fact, many times, a residential rehab will not even admit clients who are going through active withdrawal.

This is because clients within the treatment program are at a different level than those entering detox rehab centers. In addition, when you’re going through the painful symptoms of withdrawal, the last thing on your agenda is sitting through talk therapy or group sessions.

The Elements of Medical Detox

The Elements of Medical Detox

You can prepare for the following during the detox period. Keep in mind this particular example is under the assumption the client is going through buprenorphine tapering:

Initial Medical Exam

The client must first be cleared to be treated with Buprenorphine or, in some cases, a short regimen of methadone. Physicians must be confident in the client’s ability to remain stable while being weaned from heroin and going through the induction process.

Choosing the Right Regimen

Medications commonly used in heroin detox include methadone, buprenorphine, and a combo of other substances to provide relief from acute aches and pains. Methadone and buprenorphine are opioid agonists that help reduce withdrawal symptoms and cravings. Although in this example, they’re being used for detox, they can also be used as a temporary but longer-term maintenance option.

The Induction

This is when the doctor physically introduces the buprenorphine into your system. Because of its sensitivity, and the way it interacts with opioid receptors, you must be clean from any opioid/opiate use for at least 12-24 hours. However, it’s worth noting that it’s not uncommon for some users to require 48 hours of no opiate or opioid use to begin induction. Many professionals believe this is because of the concentrated potency and presence of fentanyl. Slowly but steadily, we will introduce buprenorphine into your system. Little by little, your dose will be increased until we are certain you won’t experience precipitated withdrawals.

Stabilization

After you reach a stable dose, you’ll prepare for tapering. However, you must remain stable for a few days before we can begin to decrease your daily intake. This ensures that there’s no intense fluctuation of your heart or blood pressure without giving your body enough time to become physically addicted to buprenorphine.

Tapering

The tapering process occurs when we gradually decrease your daily intake of buprenorphine until you are at zero and completely free of any opioids, opiates, or agonists.

It’s at this point that you will transition into an Orange County treatment program for drug and alcohol addiction. As stated earlier, the preferred transition is a move into our inpatient treatment program. However, outpatient treatment or an intensive outpatient program are also options, depending on your specific situation.

First, let’s take a look at the types of therapeutic modalities prescribed during rehab for drug or alcohol addiction.

Entering a Treatment Facility for Mental Health and Substance Use Disorders

Treatment Facility for Mental Health

Regardless of whether you attend Orange County treatment as part of our outpatient treatment services or residential inpatient treatment, the options you have for therapy are essentially identical.

In both programs, you will have access to the best professionals from our rehab centers. You’ll work one-on-one with counselors and addiction specialists, along with periodic group meetings with your peers. Your family may also become involved, as we have family group therapy at the treatment facility throughout the week.

So, how exactly do we take a balanced approach to treating both mental health and drug abuse?

The Combination of Holistic and Evidence Based Treatments

At our rehab center in Orange County, we have a team of experts certified in mental health and drug rehab treatment combined. This is what’s known as a dual diagnosis treatment center.

Most substance use disorders have some type of mental illness at the center of them. However, many clients enter our rehab centers with no idea about the mental health aspect of drug rehab. This is why so many people end up falling back into the pitfalls of relapse, even after completing treatment.

4 Ways of Treating the Underlying Causes of Addictive Disorders

Without treatment programs that are holistic – or heal the entire person, you’re only addressing a portion of the problem. We use a combination of all of the following:

1. An Array of Therapeutic Tools

Various forms of behavioral therapies are employed by mental health professionals. This includes Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Dialectical Behavior Therapy. While these sound similar, they’re actually quite the opposite. CBT focuses more on behaviors and how we react to certain thoughts and events. It’s our negative reaction to these thoughts and events that warrant the negative response to substance use.

CBT and DBT Basics

During CBT, the goal is to change the way you view certain life events, altering your response to elicit a more positive reaction. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy focuses more on how you feel about yourself and the events surrounding you personally. Treatments focus on the way you view yourself and your relationship with the outside world.

DBT teaches clients to be present and in the moment instead of focusing on “what if” or “worst case” scenarios, which act as triggers for substance abuse.

2. Activities that Support Your Entire Being

Holistic methods of healing include a variety of “alternative” practices. Many people view these as non-evidence based. However, with more proof that these forms of therapy are having an impact on mental health and substance abuse, the case is being made to use them more and more during residential treatment.

We’re not the only Orange County drug detox center to deploy these methods; as they continue to gain steam and become more popular, you’ll see more organizations take advantage of these techniques. They include art therapy, surf therapy, yoga, and other physical activities. Nutritional therapy is also included in this category, as proper diet is vital to healing and promoting a healthy mindset and daily practice of living.

3. Exceptional Group Therapy and Peer Support Coaching

Group therapy is another large portion of our program and takes place in several forms. One type of group therapy at our rehab centers in Orange County includes peer meetings. These give clients a chance to interact with other clients who are experiencing the same feelings and situations. This is an excellent way to open up about things that maybe you feel like your counselor wouldn’t understand.

4. A Family and Aftercare Program to Build Connections

Finally, family therapy sessions are a vital building block to recreating the family unit. Addiction takes a toll on Orange County families. By involving your parents, spouses, brothers, sisters, or other immediate family members or close friends. They’re encouraged to participate in meetings in person, together with a counselor, or via telehealth visits from home.

For those whose family of origin may not be the best match for our family program, South Shores also offer an extensive Alumni program that fosters connections with other clients and encourages participation in peer recovery events, mentoring, and other forms of social support that encourages lasting, successful recovery.

Residential Treatment and Our Intensive Outpatient Program

Intensive Outpatient Program

Deciding between residential treatment or an outpatient program after finishing our Orange County Detox Center is an important choice that you must weigh carefully with your family and treatment team.

Historically, the chances of success are always higher when participating in residential treatment. However, we know this isn’t always possible because of your professional or personal situation. In many cases, clients who opt for outpatient do so because they have obligations to fulfill at work or take care of a family member who is unable to care for themselves.

How to Choose the Right Drug and Alcohol Addiction Treatment

While these are both valid reasons, you must ask yourself the following questions before committing to outpatient:

  • Are you strong enough to stay active in your recovery?
  • Will you continue to follow through with meetings outside of treatment?
  • Will you be able to stay away from old friends and triggers?
  • Are you comfortable with coping with stressful situations in life without leaning on drugs or alcohol again?
  • Does your family support your decision, and are they willing to act as your support structure?

Answering these questions will give you a realistic idea of whether you’re able to exhibit the mental endurance needed to complete your recovery at home.

The final element takes place after residential treatment, as you prepare for aftercare and get used to post-rehab life.
